We took a little road trip today, with the a
buelos, around the northeastern coast, to Naguabo. Around Carolina and San Juan it's really flat, but we passed by some mountains on our way.
We passed the time like any other trip, jamming to bachata and salsa music, and looking for familiar businesses, like: Burger King, Wendy's, Ponderosa, Walgreens, Kmart, they've got it all! It's unlike any other place I've traveled, because everything is familiar, the cars, the clothes, the money, my cell phone works, yet it's tropical and Spanish.
Our destination was on the coast, and everyone was there for one reason: the fish! We got these pretty guys for lunch, and they tasted great. That's right, I ate that whole fish myself! Casie ate the head, she's most heroic. Also a choice of plantains:
tostones,
amarillos, or
mofongo. It was my first time having
mofongo, it's smashed plantain, with salt and garlic. My favorite is still
amarillos, because they're sweet. Mmm
We walked the pathway down to the little dock and enjoyed the view. Next we drove further up the coast so we could put our feet in the water. Casie was nervous, and made a move on the beach too quickly. She was turned down so fast it took us both by surprise. Poor thing, I laughed so hard. Then Genesis fell in too. The beach was moody today; that's why we get along. It didn't even rain on us until we were driving back. So, that worked out too.
There is a row of several large wind turbines along the ridge, we could see them well from the beach (look closely in Casie's before pic).
So far enjoying our time here!

*Casie ate some meat from the head (i.e, cheek meat). Not the whole fish head. Felt like I needed to make that clear.
Hahaha thanks casie, I was getting concerned brains were involved....
That's pretty cool about all the familiar stores! But kinda jealous about that drink....that's what I'm talking about!!
jealous of the warm weather. We are snowed in today and school is cancelled! have fun and stay out of the ocean!
