Beach Weekend

salt farm
Saturday we were off to Playa Sucia (Dirty Beach) at Cabo Rojo. On the way we passed the salt desposits where they harvest salt! The drive in was pretty, we're in the mountains and saw some cows. Also a stationary blimp thing up in the sky, I think its a research thing. It hovered in the distance and watched us all day.

is this the beach?
The road winds back and forth, finally turning into a rough dirt road back to an ugly marsh area, and when you walk beyond the tree line it reveals a lovely cove. I thought the water was particularly salty too, But, I thought this would be a perfect place to park your pirate ship.

We mostly floated, and napped, and walked the beach, and napped, and played with hermit crabs, and Casie made a sand-man. We were invaded by a troop of hermit crabs, they were eating our bread! There were like 50 hanging out under the brush, all sizes. Other wildlife sightings included the cats, dog, birds, snails, and one fish that tried to jump onto me.

Then we climbed the hill to see the lighthouse at the top, and the view! It was great, and a great place for pictures!

The house we stayed at is so nice, the couple- Alva and Charlie- run it as a bed and breakfast. They were so sweet, and their dog Rocky too! Sunday morning we joined them at the local Kingdom Hall for the meeting. They have a large congregation, the place was packed. Casie and I were able to give our comments in Spanish. Everyone was so friendly (of course!) and said we should come back soon (or course!). They even had a random puppy outside, I wish our Kingdom Hall had a puppy!

So, I've come to understand that I like fish, when I'm in other "countries" haha. Casie and I shared this guy for lunch, I've also come to understand I'm addicted to the amarillos, I ate so many today. mmmm.

We had intended to go to Gilligan Beach after lunch, but we were later than anticipated, and missed the last boat. So we just went to a different one, and the water was soooo warm and I got to snorkel for a little bit. They tell me the water is much more clear at Gilligan Beach, but I had fun. It was a Finding Nemo moment, I was just looking around, and I looked up and nearly crashed into a school of silvery fish. They swam and pivoted in unison around me, coming so close. Another set of three fish were so pretty, white and kinda triangle shaped, they came right up to me, Other ones were yellow and blue striped, they were scared of me.

That beach closed and we moved on to another one, Playa Santa, to keep swimming and watch the sunset. So much beaching! It was so nice.

Now the slew of photos!
